So John Brogden has been taken to hospital after an apparent suicide bid; he seems to have suffered self-inflicted knife-wounds and The Sydney Morning Herald had this to say:

"He was found at his Pittwater electorate office some time before 11pm with self-inflicted stab wounds."

Once again a journalist missed a fabulous opportunity for black humour. They should have ran the article with the following headline:

"Brogden Takes Final Stab at Leadership"

God, I'm such an asshole.

Yes indeed. That kind of thing would be right up SMH's alley, too.

Note the reference to both a drug and alcohol fuelled stupor, and the non life threatening nature of the stab wounds (they didn't even require surgery) - clearly, this was, in the Michael Hutchence sense, kinky self love gone wrong.

After all, if you can't get a journo to sleep with you, you've only got yourself left!
